In June 2026, One Root Collective hosted its first-ever Silent Disco, bringing together 60 community members for an evening of music, laughter, and connection. Supported by an incredible team of 15 volunteers, the event created a welcoming space where people of all ages, backgrounds, identities, and experiences could come together and simply enjoy being part of a community.

The Silent Disco was designed to further One Root Collective's mission of creating inclusive, accessible, and affirming spaces where everyone feels a sense of belonging. Unlike traditional dances or social events, a silent disco allows participants to choose their own music channel through wireless headphones, creating an environment where individuals can engage in ways that feel comfortable to them. This format was especially meaningful for many neurodivergent participants and others who may find traditional social environments overwhelming.

Throughout the evening, guests danced, sang along to their favorite songs, enjoyed food, participated in raffles, and connected with new and familiar faces. The atmosphere was filled with joy, acceptance, and genuine community spirit. One of the most meaningful aspects of the event was seeing people who might not typically cross paths sharing a space, building connections, and having fun together.

The event demonstrated the community's desire for inclusive social opportunities and highlighted the importance of creating spaces where people can show up as their authentic selves. The success of the Silent Disco has inspired One Root Collective to continue offering community-centered events that promote belonging, wellness, and meaningful connection for youth, families, and community members throughout Champaign-Urbana.
